This customized space includes every automated perk imaginable, as well as something surprising for the home music system.
Most audio fans want a huge music collection or even the best equipment. This homeowner wanted to share his love of music over every inch of this 2,100-square-foot space, which is located in Edgewater, NJ.
There are 16 Stealth Acoustics speakers and subwoofers hidden around this posh penthouse. As expected, the homeowner can choose content from a variety of sources to play throughout the entire home music system, which stretches through the halls, the office, the dining room, the bedrooms and even the kitchen. However, there’s one special place where you probably wouldn’t expect to find digital music—the automated piano.
Yes, this customized penthouse includes all sorts of automated accouterments. However, it’s the Bösendorfer piano that’s a real standout.
“We have the piano integrated into the system, so his music library will be played back by the piano itself,” says Casey Johnston, president of Serious Audio Video, Inc., out of Union City, NJ.
This unique aspect of the home music system and everything else in this stunning space is controlled via Elan’s g! Entertainment and Control System. Each room has Elan touchpanels, but can also be accessed via the homeowner’s smartphones and tablets.
Believe it or not though, bringing a massive music collection to a piano wasn’t the biggest challenge of this install. “The entire project was a challenge as each detail was scrutinized, to say the least,” says Johnston. However, the integrator says that putting in the living room TV was certainly one of the project’s most memorable moments.
“The client was familiar with high-end audio/video and wanted to continue the lifestyle,” says Johnston. “He was looking for a full home automation system to control the lighting, HVAC, audio, video, security and cameras. We added a few major upgrades like the Future Automation articulating arm with the Seura Premier 65-inch HD Mirror TV.”
Located in the main living room, the Seura Mirror TV hangs above a custom-built built fireplace on a motorized TV mount from Future Automation. The homeowner can push a button and the TV will come away from the wall and point for the proper viewing angle. When the entertainment experience is over, the same button can return the TV to its original position, out of harm’s way.
“There were a lot of details to have this Mirror TV and motorized mount work seamlessly,” Johnston adds.
Besides the Mirror TV and home music system, this space includes all of the automated comforts you’d expect to find in a dream Electronic House. Completed in November of 2014, the penthouse also has Lutron lighting and motorized shades, an Aprilaire HVAC system, PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) cameras, an Integra receiver, a Kwikset automated deadbolt, two Samsung LED HDTVs, and much more.
