When we first walked this three bedroom condo in the Hudson Tea building, it was a blank canvas. The owner wanted an impressive entertainment system but was worried all the windows would cause too much ambient light for a proper cinema experience. We suggested Screen Innovations latest, the Black Diamond, an impressive new all black screen boasting the ability to block 85% of ambient light.
The always reliable Elan Home Systems automation platform controls the home’s HVAC, Lutron lighting, Somfy motorized shades, multi-room audio, multi-room video, low level track lighting along the perimeter, living room cinema and the W.M Knabe player piano that’ll play along to the home owner’s iTunes playlists. Each of the rooms are equipped with Stealth Acoustic in-wall or in-ceiling speakers; except for the kitchen and master bathroom, where you’ll find stylish low-profile speakers from Anthony Gallow and water proof speakers from Kohler respectively.
The real wow factor, besides the view of the NYC skyline, is the living room cinema. The Black Diamond from Screen Innovations combined with a Sony 4K projector delivers a stunning picture, day or night. While not in use, the screen automatically rolls itself up into the housing unit attached to the ceiling with the push of a button (or swipe of the finger). This invisible system packs a serious punch without taking up any of the homeowner’s living space. The necessary hardware is all conveniently stored in an equipment rack located in a storage closet.
